Raw Moment
  • Raw Moment

The challenging and defiant look of a lioness defending her kill.

Taken in the Serengeti National Park when the wildebeest migration was at its peak, we came across this young lioness just as she pounced on a fully-grown adult wildebeest. Unfortunately, her inexperience meant that the kill was not completely clean, and her breakfast was fresh as can be. As we re-angled the vehicle, she put her paw possessively over the wildebeest and gave us this intense stare. The beads of blood covering her face and muzzle make for a powerful image, reminding us that although nature is beautiful, it is also brutal.

    Why Save The Rhino?

There are 5 rhino species on Earth and every single one of them is listed as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. For my masters thesis, I investigated black rhinos. I feel so fortunate to have worked on the ground with these iconic, charismatic animals and I just couldn't understand why we were still losing rhinos to outdated information & unfounded beliefs. I can honestly say that there are SO many people who care, and are working tirelessly to protect these magnificent creatures.

Save The Rhino International support numerous, vital, projects around the world, from funding anti-poaching units to enabling ground-breaking research. I'm thrilled to be donating 20% of all profits to Save The Rhino International. I am also incredibly proud to be their Ambassador.
